Fritzingertown Senior Living Community Staff Reports Break-In, Staff Responds Swiftly and Courageously

Drums, PA – September 2, 2025 – Fritzingertown Senior Living Community today confirmed that at approximately 11:15 PM ET, on August 31, 2025, a break-in occurred in the Independent Living section of its campus. While this was an unexpected and deeply troubling event involving an assault on two independent living residents, the swift and courageous actions of the staff ensured the safety of residents and prevented a more serious outcome.

Despite the building being locked and secure, the suspect forcibly kicked in locked doors to gain entry. Almost immediately staff responded to the situation and were able to confront the intruder in a manner that took him away from other residents, provided care for the assaulted residents, and called 911. Demonstrating both bravery and training, staff were able to lure and barricade the suspect into a laundry room until police and emergency responders arrived and removed the individual without further incident.

“Our first and most important concern is always the welfare of our residents,” said Paula Hahn, Executive Director. “We are deeply grateful to our staff for their quick action and courage in the face of this frightening situation, and for the prompt response of our local and state police and first responders.”

In partnership with local authorities, the community has requested that the police department provide regular surveillance of the campus in the coming weeks. The community also has engaged a private security company to be present at night.  Additionally, the community’s psychiatric social worker will be made available to provide counseling and support for residents and staff.

In more than 40 years of operation, this type of incident has never occurred at Fritzingertown Senior Living Community. Leadership emphasized that the outcome is a direct reflection of the staff’s dedication and adherence to safety protocols.

“We commend our team for following their training and ensuring that this horrifying event ended without a worse outcome.,” said Hahn.
